Nakama
"Nakama" is a Japanese term meaning friend or close compatriot, and that's exactly what this set is about. Nakama is a large sake set containing ten cups, four pourers, and a single jug. Modeled after a Yakuza family: there is a single head of the family (a Kumicho), who has a few lieutenants, which have multiple underlings with different roles such as advisors, assistants, and an assortment of lower ranking gang members. Entry into a Yakuza family begins with a ceremony in which sake is exchanged and drank. The set is fired in an Anagama wood-fire kiln with minimal glaze and slip in a purely traditional style. This set was created from my respect for the Anagama wood-fire kiln.
