Task Analysis

The task analysis is a video recording of a consumer using a coffee brewer that is referenced for machine interface and human interaction.

Life Cycle Analysis

After understanding users, I wanted a deep understanding of a brewing machine as well.

The analysis is conducted to list out the full build of a brewer and understand the entirety of it's envionrmental impact.

The impacts are measured in "Okala Points" and then added together and divided by a product's life. This gives an Okala Points Per Hour (OPPH) to classify an items environmental impact

Design Process

Research

Ideation

I choose to use standard induction heating, and base the brewer on the vacuum and french press styles. Because of the unique collaboration of methods I then devised an original design.

Adding Biomimicry

In search of biological phenomena to improve my designs, I collaborated with a local Ph.D. candidate. I learned about insect flight thermoregulation, in particular, the countercurrent heat exchanger found in some species of bumblebees.
